Phibian
Created through a complex process of genetics during the Scattering, the Phibians were a humanoid race of green skinned, aquatic creatures, supposedly created through a mixture of fish and human DNA, though they are described as frog like, and able to breath both above and below water. They were slightly taller than humans, and had lean and streamlined bodies, which came in handy when swimming, or diving for soostones. So adept were they at finding these precious stones, that the Honoured Matres used Phibians to amass a soostone wealth, as well as using them to oversee Bene Gesserit slaves.The Baron's Doctor
A trained medical expert in the service of Vladimir Harkonnen, this mysterious doctor, known only as the Baron's Doctor, was either truly enamoured with the idea of spending his remaining years tending to the Baron's conditions, or simply the sort that lays on flattery like butter over bread. The Baron apparently liked his Doctor, and called on him during his medical emergencies, of which there must have been many. It is presumed that the Doctor lived on Giedi Prime, in close proximity to his master.Baliset
A musical instrument prized across the universe for its calming dulcet tones, the baliset was a plucking instrument, with nine strings. Mostly made with skill on the planet Chusuk, the baliset was a descendant of the Zither, and was probably played in the same way and produced the same sort of sound frequency. The Atreides soldier and swordsmaster Gurney Halleck favoured the instrument during his days with his Duke, but continued to use it even after the House's near destruction.Dune (card game)
Originally, Five Rings and Last Unicorn published a single set of 301 cards. These could be purchased in boosters and starter packs, with major cards such as Allies and Homeworlds being available only in the starter sets. In addition to these cards, several promotional cards, identical apart from the word "promo" on their sides, were also released. When Wizards purchased FiveRings, it did not continue to make a second 301 card set, but instead began to release the cards in "chapters", as part of the "Rolling Thunder set". These chapters were released every two months, with a set of new cards in each. This did not bode well however, as high duplicate percentages made the game near noncollectable. Wizards then released two more complete sets; Dune: Judge of the Change and Dune: Thunder at Twilight. But it was already too late for the Dune CCG, as over complex rules, the "Rolling Thunder" backlash, and the failure of a sub-game, The Water Sellers Strategy, forced the company to cancel the game, and pursue other initiatives.Oberon
Oberon appears only in the David Lynch film, Dune, and in the Dune card game, and is therefore considered to be non-canon. In the film, he is never referred to as Oberon, only as a Third Stage Guild Navigator, but in the card game his name is established as being Oberon, presumably a take on the name of a character in Shakespeare's play, A Midsummer Night's Dream. The card game also established that he spent most of his time on Tupile. In the film, Oberon is portrayed by a huge flexible puppet, which was created by Carlo Rambaldi and painted by Luigi Rochette, that enters into the Golden Lion Throne Room in a huge black Navigator Tank, and then emerges from the gas within. The effect is perhaps the most memorable in the film.Bene Gesserit
The Bene Gesserit (the name being a likely derivative of the Latin phrase "quamdium se bene gesserit", meaning "as long as he/she shall have behaved well") were an ancient sisterhood of women, all skilled in many mental and biological tricks and manipulative techniques, aquired through training, exercises and use of the Spice Melange, such as mind control. The Bene Gesserit were an anomaly in the Imperium, as, though their power was great enough to make them one of the four super-powers in the universe, they relied instead on clandestine manipulation, never straying into the heart of society. It was in this manner that they preserved their ways through the years. Through use of underhanded subtlety and insinuation, the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood intended to create a super-being, the Kwisatz Haderach, using a centuries old breeding program. The Kwisatz Haderach would be the only male Bene Gesserit of their's, and would be able to view an area on the inner being that was untouchable by any woman. Two of these Kwisatz Haderach's were created, both of which proved to be failures. The first, Hasimir Fenring, was not powerful enough, and was a genetic failure, whilst the other, Paul Atreides, would not bow to the will of the Bene Gesserit.Due to their mysterious ways and seeming ability to always achieve their goals despite any visible governmental power, the Bene Gesserit were regarded by many as witches and dark meddlers, and were generally untrusted by most.
The Bene Gesserit were trained on Wallach IX, though, in later years, their secret headquarters were on the planet Chapterhouse.
Soostone
Produced by the monopedic Cholisters on Buzzel, the Soostone was a valuable mineralised gemstone, prized for its prestigous milky beauty. Often used in jewelery, the Soostone was the primary trade resource of the Phibians, who would use them to barter for the Spice Melange.
